The Float Rower is the brainchild of LA Design, inspired by the need for a more realistic rowing experience. Traditional rowing machines fail to exercise key muscle groups essential for rowers, thus leading to the creation of Float Rower. This machine behaves as if it were on water, responding to the user's inputs and actions, making it an excellent training aid for rowers and a superior workout machine for fitness enthusiasts.
What sets Float Rower apart from other rowing machines is its unique float and roll system. This innovation brings the sensation of being on the water to dry land. The machine is built onto an elegant chassis, with a floating and rolling monorail, resistance mechanism, and seat that give the user the sensation of sitting on a rowing racing boat. The Float Rower has two fully independent resistance mechanisms to develop rowing technique simultaneously with strength, fitness, and endurance.
The Float Rower is a blend of custom aluminium extrusions, CNC fabricated aluminium tubes, aluminium castings, injection mouldings, and large RIM mouldings. The materials and design details have been selected to satisfy mechanical strength requirements while optimizing the solutions for the lightest weight, within commercially acceptable cost constraints.
The Float Rower incorporates pitch and roll with a moving resistance mechanism. The seat and feet geometry align directly with those found in a rowing boat, ensuring that all the work on land can be directly transferred when rowing on water. The sophisticated user interface features touch screen technology and can display and record all aspects of a rower's input, including stroke length, left and right power, pitch, and roll.
The Float Rower is not just a rowing machine; it's a revolution in indoor rowing. The design process began in 2014, with the first prototype tested in 2015. After further development and refinement, a final prototype was completed in 2016. The design team included Matthew Brown, Benn Klewpatinond, Simon Wilkinson of LA Design, and Anthony Hamilton of Float Rower.
The Float Rower has been recognized for its innovative design and contribution to the fitness industry. It was awarded Platinum in A' Sporting Goods, Fitness and Recreation Equipment Design Award in 2017. This award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing.
